Documentation Centre

Documentation centre

The documentation centre consists of a documentation centre, a library and a photographic department. It is open to external readers on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm to 5pm.

The documentation centre of the National Archaeological Museum brings together and conserves books and documents relating to archaeology, and makes them available to the public.

It has two objectives: to help in the preparation of the museum’s activities and to direct, inform and welcome professionals, specialists in archaeology, researchers, students and those who are just interested in archaeology.

Services

Remote responses to all types of research relating to archaeology and to the collections of the National Archaeological Museum.

On-site consultation of a multi-media archive (printed matter, documentary files, iconographic archives, documentary films, databases and image banks, electronic resources) relating to French archaeology, archaeology museums and to the National Archaeological Museum in particular.

To consult the documents

A section of these archives can be consulted on site using an illustrated online database.

The audiovisual archive (230 short and medium length documentary films) can be consulted on DVD on an individual computer.

Printed material can be borrowed by students from the Ecole du Louvre and universities in the Paris region (3 books, for 15 days maximum).

Special conditions

The documents and printed matter may not be photocopied, but a reproduction or electronic version can be supplied for the purposes of study if required.
